Born in Saint-Louis, Senegal, and now an independent teacher and Sufi shaykh in Dakar, his own principle shaykh was Abū Bakr Zayd al-Jalluwī (q.v.), who is described in a cover note in his Niche des Secrets as his “illustre Maître le Saint et Sublime Imam de Bansang”. Aḥmad Tall describes himself as “professeur de Lettres, Islamologue et écrivain”.
