Events in the Sudan were reported in the Official Journal, Veqaʾiʿ-i miṣrīye (al-Waqāʾiʿ al-miṣriyya), written in both Turkish and Arabic; see further Hill (1959), 172-73. Later issues sometimes contained occasional poetry written by Sudanese notables. One quasi-literary work published in al-Waqaʾiʿ al-miṣriyya was:

1. Riḥlat sākin al-jinān mawlānā al-kabīr Muḥammad ʿAlī ilā ’l-Sūdān.
