Throughout Eastern Sudanic Africa, genealogies, king-lists and chronicles were composed, even if not necessarily written down or else written down much later.

There must be hundreds, if not thousands, of written genealogies in eastern Sudanic Africa; the Nilotic Sudan is especially rich in such documents. Most have been written in this century although many embody earlier material.
