This volume of The China Environment Yearbook also gives special attention to the protection of natural forests.

The World Resources Institute (WRI) released a Report on World Forests in December 2000 that analyzes worldwide forest conditions. The report stresses, “The world should consider not only the quantity, but also the quality of the forests,” and that “in every developed or developing country, the problem is not the extinction of forests but the decline of old-growth forests.”
