Commentary

This inscription is preserved on the side of a cylindrical stone base, of which half is lost, taking with it the end of line 1, the beginning and end of lines 2 and 3, and the beginning of line 4. A separate part of the inscription ran in a circle around the flat top; half of this too is lost and the surviving part is worn and difficult to read, but appears to deal with the erection of the monument. A square mortise hole cut in the top would probably have served to support a statue, perhaps the one referred to in §10.
