These two tiny silver scrolls were found in 1980 by Gabriel Barkay during the excavation of a burial cave in Jerusalem near the Church of St. Andrew on a rocky hillside overlook the Valley of Hinnom — hence, Ketef Hinnom or “the Shoulder of Hinnom.” When unrolled, the scrolls proved to be amulets containing several lines of Hebrew …
