I saw the bindings of the Nag Hammadi manuscripts first in August 1975, when they were being prepared for conservation, and again in December 1976, by which time conservation was completed. The leaves of the text as well as most of the inscribed cartonnage have been removed from the bindings and have been conserved separately between sheets of Plexiglas.
