The biblical anthroponym Shamgar (Judg. 3.31; Judg. 5.6) is most likely understood as a Hurrian name (Šimig-ari) meaning ‘Shimige has given’ (Feiler 1939). Shimige is the Hurrian sun-god (von Schuler 19832).
