The adjective “esoteric” (ἐσωτερι;κός) has often been attributed to Aristotle, but in fact he uses only the word “exoteric” (ἐξωτερι;κός; see references in Riffard 1990, 65) and opposes it to “acroamatic” (from ἀκρόα;μα;, oral instruction).
