Foix-Candale (= Foix de Candale), François, * August 1512 (Bordeaux), † 5 Feb 1594 (Bordeaux)

Foix-Candale belonged to a family of the old Catholic nobility which provided some of the most ardent leaders of resistance to the Huguenots in the Southwest. He succeeded his brother as Bishop of Aire-sur-l'Adour near Bordeaux in 1570. Although that post remained merely formal, he was made Cardinal in 1587.
