(1863-1913), successful Egyptian journalist and editor of the influential newspaper daily al-Muʾayyad , which dominated the Muslim press from 1889-1913.

S̲h̲ayk̲h̲ ʿAlī Yūsuf was born in the remote village of Balṣafūra in Upper Egypt, to poor parents. His father died a year after his birth, forcing his mother to move with him back to her own village of Banī ʿAdī, where he was given a traditional religious education, memorising the Ḳurʾān by the age of 12.
