Trial by jury and assizes (French jury, cour d'assises; German SchwurgerichteGeschwor(e)nengerichte, Assisen) - are courts of law composed of professional judges and jurors (Lay judge); in contrast to German Schöffengerichte, a distinction is made between the judges’ and jurors’ bench.
