Moshe Mizrahi was born into a Sephardic family in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1931. At the age of fifteen he moved to Palestine (later Israel). In 1958, he went to Paris to study cinematography. Since Israeli film-making hardly existed at that time,  he stayed on in France and began his career as a director. Family background and culture soon made him realize that he should tell stories connected to Israel. In 1972, in Israel, he directed I Love You Rosa (Heb. Ani Ohev Otakh Rosa).
