Voluntary abortion has been legal in Turkey since 1983. According to the Law on Population Planning of 1983, pregnancies up to the tenth week can be terminated upon request. After ten weeks, there must be a medical reason in order for an abortion to be performed. This medical reason must be confirmed by a gynecologist-obstetrician and another specialist in the related condition.
