A range of mountains in the Jabal Shammar principality and one of the chief physical features of northern Najd ; it bounds the Batn plain in which Hāil stands on the north-west, being interposed between Batn and the Nafūd and divided from the latter by a strip of hard gravelly ground in places 2 hours wide. The length of Aja is about 75 miles,1 its breadth is about 15, and its general direction is from north-east to south-west.
