[90c] As mentioned earlier, Wazir Fath Khan was defeated by Ranjit Singh’s forces and returned to Kabul. Shah Mahmud immediately equipped an army and in 1232/1816–17 left Kabul for Lahore with the wazir. Ranjit Singh also readied his forces and rode out to the Attock River in a defensive maneuver.
