Chaeris was a scholar of the school of Aristarchus1 (cf. Sch. Il. 9, 605b) and the father of the grammarian Apollonius2, who is cited explicitly as ὁ Χαίριδος.  He lived presumably between the second half of the 2nd c. and the beginning of the 1st c. BCE.  He engaged in Homer…
