Socrates was an Argive scholar who lived, according to Halliday (Gr. Quest. Plut., 1928, p. 116) and Griffiths (Plut. De Iside, 1970), in the 2nd c. CE, but in the 3rd c. CE according to Gudeman (Sokrates [n. 3], RE 3A 1 [1927], 804-810).
